Costco has decided to stop selling their extremely popular half-sheet cakes. The cakes can feed about 48 people and cost around $20. They come in two flavors, a white cake filled with a vanilla cheesecake mousse, topped with white buttercream frosting, and a chocolate cake, filled with chocolate mousse and a chocolate buttercream icing.

The company quietly pulled them from their bakeries in May but recently announced they would not be bringing them back.

Costco said that they have been selling round, 10-inch cakes, which can feed about a dozen people. The wholesaler told the New York Times that the smaller cakes "seem to be resonating with our members."

While the company did not specify a reason for discontinuing the sales of the half-sheet cakes, they suggested that it was due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"To help limit personal contact and create more space for social distancing, Costco has reduced service in some departments," the company wrote on Facebook. "At this time, we are not making sheet cakes for special order."

The decision has upset some customers, including one person who said the half-sheet cakes were the only reason they kept their membership. Another customer told the Times that Costco's cakes taste much better than similar ones from the grocery store.

"They're delicious," Megan Engle said. "I don't know if they're fresh or if Costco uses superior ingredients, but they're delicious."
