Farmer-Turned State Rep Roth Faces Challenge From Democrat Carroll

In the race for the state House seat in District 85, a retired attorney is challenging Incumbent Republican Representative Rick Roth.

Jim Carroll calls himself a moderate Democrat. We asked him how he feels about one platform that appears to be a popular one with those on the Left.

"I oppose defunding the police. The police is our law enforcement arm and we need law enforcement to keep our society safe, so I oppose that."

He adds that steps need to be taken to bring police together with minority communities.

Roth touts the passing of Amendment 5, which he introduced. It's the one that would increase from 2 to three years, the period during which accrued Save-Our-Homes benefits may be transferred from a prior homestead to a new homestead.

The Incumbent is also proud of a bill he sponsored that provides incentives for veterans and military members to adopt children from the state's child-welfare system.

"I'm going to continue to do adoption legislation...try to increase the amount of adoption going on in Florida. We need to rescue these kids out of group foster care and have them be adopted by families."
