WA Officials Kill Murder Hornets

(Blaine, WA) -- Authorities in Washington state say they destroyed a nest of so-called murder hornets.

The Asian giant hornets are an invasive species not native to the U.S. The huge two-inch hornets have been dubbed "murder hornets" because their sting can sometimes be fatal to humans.

On Friday, Washington state officials say they found a nest of murder hornets in the town of Blaine, near the Canadian border.

Yesterday, they released a statement on Facebook saying they "vacuumed" the hornets out of the nest, and showed a pest control worker holding a large clear cylinder filled with dead hornets.
