Sheriff: 50 & Over Vaccine Policy For Cops Won't "Touch A Lot Of People"

The COVID-19 vaccine is now available to sworn law enforcement officers ages 50 and up, but Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw says it likely won't have much of an effect on protecting his deputies.

"That ain't a significant amount of people. If you're over fifty, if you're 55, you're pretty much either have retired or you're not in a real on-the-road position. Most of the men and women out there, these are young men and women."

In fact, the sheriff says all four of the sworn members of his team who have died from the coronavirus were under the age of 50.

But he says he understands the governor has been doing the best he can with a limited supply of doses.

"The federal government has got to get the supply to the states, and then they can free up more of it."

Bradshaw hopes the approval for use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will lead to younger members of law enforcement gaining access and he encourages his deputies to get vaccinated as soon as they are eligible.
