Miami PD Swears In New Chief Art Acevedo

There's a new Chief in town.

During a private event on Monday morning, Art Acevedo was sworn in as the new City of Miami Police Chief. Acevedo was previously in Houston and led the nation’s fourth-largest police department.

Under his command, Acevedo took care of the community during Hurricane Harvey. He also marched with protesters after the death of George Floyd and during the most recent winter storm, Acevedo was there working to keep the people of Texas safe.

Usually, this event is open to the public, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, he was joined by his wife and son, city leaders, and law enforcement officials.

It was just last month that Miami Mayor Francis Suarez announced Acevedo’s appointment and called him one of the best police chiefs in the nation.

As to what to expect from the chief? Acevedo said he is not about politics. He will support and advocate on behalf of any good cop and will not accept mediocrity within the department. Acevedo succeeds former Police Chief Jorge Colina.
