Florida's state of emergency for COVID-19 that was about to expire was extended another 60 days Tuesday by Governor Ron DeSantis.
The governor cited the, "continuing threat to the health, safety and welfare of the State of Florida and its residents."
Governor DeSantis issued the original state of emergency on March 9, 2020 and was extended in 60-day increments.
The order empowers local governments to respond to the pandemic and enables state agencies to coordinate with their federal counterparts. It also allows the governor to deploy the Florida National Guard to respond to the virus if needed.
