Governor DeSantis unveils education spending wish-list for schools

Governor Ron DeSantis dropped by Jacksonville Classical Academy Wednesday to unveil his education budget proposal--

"Our education budget this year is going to have a lot of wins for families, for students and for teachers," Governor DeSantis said. "I'm proud to say that we'll be including $600 million to continue to boost teacher pay."

The governor will ask state lawmakers to again approve $1,000 bonuses for principals and teachers. DeSantis wants to spend $8,000 per student- an increase in the base allocation per pupil of $124- the biggest increase in a decade.

Florida's public education system is moving from the FSA to progress monitoring for students and Governor Ron DeSantis said today his proposed education budget includes $15.5 million to fund the changeover.

"That'll be recurring funding because the progress monitoring tools are more interactive, they're more nimble, they provide more feedback in ways that are helpful for parents, and teachers and for students."

The state Legislature will consider the governor's spending plans for schools when lawmakers gather in Tallahassee for the two month regular session starting in January.
