Tampa's Mayor, Police Chief Among Those Meeting With President Biden Today

Tampa mayor Jane Castor and Police Chief Mary O' Connor will join their counterparts from around the country in a meeting this afternoon with President Biden at the White House Rose Garden.

Administration officials say the President will urge cities, like Tampa, to spend more of their coronavirus relief money on policing and public safety programs before summer, which normally sees a spike in violent crime.

This comes as the government prepares to release a second round of coronavirus relief funding for state and local governments.

Castor will be joined by mayors and police chiefs from Detroit, Houston, Kansas City, Tulsa, and Toledo, along with officials from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Mercer County, Pennsylvania.
