A woman believed to be in her 80's is dead after she was attacked by two alligators in a pond at the Boca Royale Golf and Country Club in Englewood on Friday evening.

Sarasota County Sheriff's Office says the woman, identified by residents at Rose Marie Wiegand, was seen falling into the pond and "struggling to stay afloat" when the alligators grabbed her. Neighbor Kurt Kauffman says gators are very common. "In our community, there are a lot of alligators. We see them on the golfing greens and in the ponds."

A trapper was called to the scene and the gators were removed. One was said to be 8 feet-10 inches. The other, 7 feet-7 inches.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. An official cause of death has not been announced. An autopsy is pending at the Sarasota County Medical Examiner's Office.
