Things are getting very busy in the tropics, with forecasters at the National Hurricane Center now watching five systems, including Category 4 Hurricane Fiona, which is moving north through the open ocean.
A tropical wave east of the Windward Islands has a 90% chance of development over the next five days as it moves toward the Caribbean, and possibly into the Gulf of Mexico by next week. After that, Max Defender 8 meteorologist Rebecca Barry says the long-range computer models show a much less certain track. "Right now the Euro (computer model)'s bringing it into South Florida just south of us, which would put us on the weaker side of the system, and the GFS (computer model) is keeping it further out and stronger, and possibly headed toward the Panhandle."
There are also two other systems off the coast of Africa with a low to moderate chance of development.
