Execution Date Set in 1990 Murder

A Florida man convicted of murdering a woman 33 years ago now has an execution date of February 23.

Gov. DeSantis has signed a death warrant for Donald David Dillbeck, who was sentenced to death for the 1990 murder of Faye Vann. According to the governor's office, Dillbeck was serving a life sentence for killing a Lee County Deputy Sheriff in 1979, and escaped from an off-site vocational program. He walked to Tallahassee and purchased a knife, which he used to stab Faye Vann while trying to hijack her car.

Dillbeck was caught shortly afterward after crashing the car.

This would be Florida's first execution since June of 2019, when Gary Ray Bowles was put to death.
