The House of Representatives passed a bill averting a government shutdown on Friday (December 20), just hours before the deadline. The vote was 366 to 34. The 34 no votes all came from Republicans, while one Democrat voted present.
The bill extends government funding into March and includes disaster relief and farming provisions. However, it does not include a suspension of the debt limit.
The bill now heads to the Senate, where it must pass before President Joe Biden can sign it. The White House said that Biden supports the bill.
"President Biden supports moving this legislation forward and ensuring that the vital services the government provides for hardworking Americans — from issuing Social Security checks to processing benefits for veterans -- can continue as well as to grant assistance for communities that were impacted by devastating hurricanes," said White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre in a statement.
It is unclear when the Senate will vote on the measure.
