South Florida's Coco Gauff, fresh off winning the French Open, lost in the first round of Wimbledon.
Gauff, the second seed, was one of three of the top five seeds to go down.
Gauff's shocking first-round defeat was at the hands of an inspired Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska who played the match of her life winning 7-6, 6-1.
An incredulous Gauff sought advice from her player box durring the 78 minutes as she was dismantled by the world #42 female player.
After winning, the Ukrainian beauty, Yastremska, 25 said, “It was a great match today, I was really on fire. Adding, “This court brings me a lot of nice memories. I played junior finals here; it gave me a lot of emotion."
Other shocking defeats, third seed Jessica Pegula exited in straight sets against Italy’s Elisabetta Cocciaretto.
Fifth-seeded Chinese player and Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng lost to Katerina Siniakova in three sets.
