Krasniy Oktyabr Inc. USA, based in Brooklyn, New York, has issued a nationwide recall of its Aral Silver Vobla fish due to a potential botulism risk. The recall was announced after the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets discovered that the fish were uneviscerated, meaning they were not properly gutted before packaging. This condition can lead to the growth of Clostridium botulinum spores, which are more concentrated in the viscera and can cause botulism poisoning.
The affected product is sold in clear plastic vacuum-sealed bags with a blue label, containing two whole fish marked as "Product of Kazakhstan." The recall applies to all retail stores across the United States that carry this product. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) emphasized that botulism is a rare but serious illness that can cause symptoms such as difficulty breathing, muscle paralysis, and even death if not treated promptly.
As of now, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled fish. Consumers who purchased the product are advised not to consume it and to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Krasniy Oktyabr Inc. USA has stated that they conducted independent testing which showed the fish to be safe, but they are cooperating with the FDA's recall process.
For further inquiries, consumers can contact Krasniy Oktyabr Inc. USA directly by calling 718-858-6720.
The recall remains ongoing, and the FDA urges anyone experiencing symptoms of botulism to seek immediate medical attention.
