(Pinellas County, FL) - Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed his sixth out of the seven judges on the Florida Supreme Court.

Governor DeSantis selected appeals court judge Adam Tanenbaum out of a group of six white male jurists to fill the seat vacated by Charles Canady whom he did not appoint.

Tanenbaum sat on the First District Court of Appeal which adjudicates cases arising from state law and policy and is considered second only to the Supreme Court.

He also served in all three branches of state government.

In accepting the governor's appointment, Tanenbaum said he is an originalist and rules with constraint.

He is also a member of the Federalist Society, graduated valedictorian from Seminole High in Pinellas County, and UF for his undergraduate.

“You will not find 10 people out of 23 million in Florida who know more about how this government works than Judge Tannenbaum… and I think he’s going to do a really, really good job on the Florida Supreme Court.”

Florida Supreme Court justices serve a six-year term after their appointment and must appear on the ballot in the next general election for retention.

During his time as governor, DeSantis has reshaped the court from moderately liberal to objectively conservative.

Judge Canady took a position as director at University of Florida's Hamilton School.
