The U.S. House Ethics Committee pushed the public trial of Florida Democrat Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick from this week to later in the month after her attorney withdrew from the case.

In a statement, the committee said: "Representative Cherfilus-McCormick asked for a brief continuance to allow her to retain new counsel. The adjudicatory subcommittee agreed to that request and has rescheduled the adjudicatory hearing for March 26, 2026.”

46-year-old Cherfilus-McCormick is accused of campaign finance violations, code of ethics violations, and violating House rules.

She was indicted for stealing $5 million in FEMA funds and has pleaded not guilty in her federal criminal case.

Prosecutors allege she stole the federal disaster funds, laundered the cash and spent it on her 2021 congressional election campaign.
