Oath Keepers 'Leader' Coordinated With Proud Boys Before Capitol Riot: Feds

The Justice Department has revealed new details about the riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6. In a court filing opposing the pretrial release of Kelly Meggs, who is a leader of the Oath Keepers, federal prosecutors said that Meggs played a crucial role in coordinating with the Proud Boys and the Florida 3%ers ahead of the violent insurrection during a joint session of Congress.

"This week I organized an alliance between Oath Keepers, Florida 3%ers, and Proud Boys. We have decided to work together and shut this s*** down," Meggs allegedly wrote on Facebook on December 19.

In another post, Meggs replied to a tweet in which former President Donald Trump urged his supporters to show up in Washington, D.C. on January 6 for a "wild" protest.

"It's gonna be wild!!!!!!! It's gonna be wild!!!!!!! He wants us to make it WILD that's what he's saying," Meggs posted on December 22, according to prosecutors. "He called us all to the Capitol and wants us to make it wild!! Sir Yes Sir!!"

Meggs participated in at least ten virtual meetings with other members of the Oath Keepers as they formalized their plans to protest the results of the presidential election in Washington, D.C. He also booked and paid for two hotel rooms in D.C. ahead of the protest.

So far, no evidence shows any of the groups hatched plans to storm the U.S. Capitol Building before arriving in the nation's capital for the protest.

Meggs has pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy, obstruction of an official proceeding, destruction of government property, and entering and remaining in a restricted building.
