St. Petersburg Police: Only Minor Incidents in Saturday's Floyd Protest

ST. PETERSBURG -- Unlike the situation in Tampa and Hillsborough County Saturday, in which dozens of businesses were attacked and almost 50 people arrested, St Petersburg's police chief says only a few people.. "10 or 15" were behaving unlawfully out of the 300 or so who attended a protest of the death of George Floyd at City Hall Saturday.

Chief Anthony Holloway says incidents included a man jumping up on the hood of a car. He said his officers did an outstanding job and praised members of the community he says "squished" attempts at violence.

The chief and Mayor Rick Kriseman insisted that the handful acting unlawfully had some people who cam in from outside the city, based on Facebook Live posts. Kriseman also praised officers and citizens but said he wasn't taking a victory lap. "If something will be won, it is justice for George Floyd," Kriseman said.
