The Start Of High School Sports Are Being Discussed Today

The battle over the future of fall sports in Florida is being debated in Gainesville.

The Florida High School Athletic Association's Board of Directors is discussing a series of options for fall sports ranging from beginning practice on August 24.

Other options allow football, girls volleyball and competitive cheerleading to practice on November 30th... with a third somewhere in between.

Executive Director George Tomyn says he's met with ten committees.

He has proposed a flexible schedule so schools can begin fall sports if conditions are safe, South Florida schools would be able to set a regional calendar.

Hialeah Gardens High School Athletic Director Carlos Ochoa suggests allowing teams to start practicing on August 24th with the regular season beginning on September 4th.

However the Florida High School Athletic Association Board of Directors member also proposes allowing schools by September 18th to opt out of the state series and create regional calendars.
