Father Of Corey Jones Reacts To Derek Chauvin Verdict

The father of a South Florida man killed by police speaks out in the wake of the Derek Chauvin verdict.

Corey Jones was shot by a Palm Beach Gardens cop in October of 2015, while he waited for a tow truck along I-95.

His father called the three guilty verdicts in the George Floyd murder bittersweet.

"It was very hard for me to just sit there and watch that. I'm praying for the Floyd family and praying that God will continue to strengthen them as they go through this process."

Clinton Jones says the trial brought back memories of sitting in the courtroom, watching Nouman Raja be tried for the death of his son.

Raja was convicted of manslaughter and attempted murder.

Mr. Jones says these cases show police reform is needed.

At the center of the Chauvin trial was that 9 minute-29 second video of the former cop's knee on George Floyd's neck.

Palm Beach County's top prosecutor says that was "devestating" to Chauvin's defense team.

"With more body cameras. With more cell phone cameras, I think you will see more of these cases being brought forward."

But even more key in this case, Aronberg says is that some of Chauvin's fellow police officers testified against him.

He says if this case starts a trend in which more cops testify against their peers, that would be the most significant legacy of the Chauvin trial.

Derek Chauvin was convicted of all three charges against him in a Minneapolis courtroom Tuesday.
