LISTEN: All of Tampa (Kansas) Visits Tampa (Florida) This Week

TAMPA, FL -- They're not in Kansas anymore, but they're still in Tampa.

Most of the residents of Tampa, Kansas, are enjoying a free four-day vacation in the Florida city of the sane name.

Santiago Corriada, CEO of Tampa's tourism agency, Visit Tampa Bay, says it's a gesture of goodwill for the holidays and a way to get some publicity in the Midwest. That region is one of Tampa's biggest tourism markets and the namesake vacation is a great way to get some attention there.

Corriada says the offer of a free trip drew skepticism at first. He describes responses as, "Is it a scam? Too good to be true? How is this happening to us?" But residents of the town warmed to the idea.

They'll get free meals at some of Tampa's restaurants and free tickets to major attractions.

Southwest Airlines and local hotels covered airfare and lodging for the Kansas town's approximately 100 residents.
