Dentist Arrested for Possession of Over 1,000 Child Pornography Files

Naples, FL - A Southwest Florida dentist has been arrested and charged with possession and transmission of child pornography after over 1,000 sexually explicit files were found on a Dropbox account associated with him.

Stephen Layton, a 68-year-old dentist at Tamiami Trail Dental Care in Naples, has been arrested and charged with 100 counts of possession and 100 counts of transmission of child pornography.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) initiated an investigation after receiving two cyber tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), one of the largest child protection organizations in the United States.

NCMEC informed the CCSO about possible transmission of child pornography, leading detectives to obtain a search warrant for a suspected Dropbox account.

The search revealed over 1,000 sexually explicit files of children between 5 to 16 years old engaged in “lewd exhibition of their genitalia.”

Further investigation found that the transmission and possession of these files occurred at Layton’s Naples home and dental practice.

On March 28th, detectives arrested Layton at his home and seized multiple items of digital media for further analysis.

The investigation is still ongoing.
