Intoxicated Man Surrenders After Lengthy Stand Off with Deputies

Palm Coast, FL - An intoxicated Palm Coast man was arrested this week following a two-hour standoff with police.

The standoff unfolded in Palm Coast, as the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office grappled with 57-year-old Michael Wells, who'd allegedly attacked a family member inside their residence.

The incident began when a distressed family member escaped from the home and called 911, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.

According to the sheriff's office, Wells had been inebriated and agitated for an extended period leading up to the standoff.

Upon arriving at the scene, Wells defied deputies' directives to exit the premises, reportedly declaring that he "wouldn’t go down without a fight."

The family member informed authorities that there was at least one firearm inside the residence.

During the standoff, Wells placed a firearm near the front door, allowing deputies to secure it.

However, his agitation persisted as he retreated further into the home and returned with another firearm, which he brandished while shouting at the deputies, although he did not point the weapon directly at them.

The standoff concluded with Wells being taken into custody on charges of domestic battery, domestic assault, domestic strangulation, domestic false imprisonment, resisting an officer with violence, and aggravated assault on an officer.

He was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, with a bond set at $102,500.
