Many Treasure Coast residents have been excited about the possibility of getting a Buc-ee's for months and now that possibility is closer to becoming a reality.
The Texas-based gas station-store chain formally submitted a site plan to St. Lucie County this week.
Word that Buc-ee's wanted to open a location off I-95 and Indrio Road in Fort Pierce first came in August.
Now that the application has been submitted, it could take several weeks for the Development Review Committee to review it before the proposal goes before the Planning and Zoning Commission.
Those steps must happen before it could get before the St. Lucie County Commission for final approval. A county spokesman says the entire process could take several months.
Buc-ee's is known for their clean bathrooms and typically 100 gas pumps or more, as well as their snacks like Beaver Nuggets.
If approved, the Fort Pierce location would become Florida's fourth Buc-ee's. They are already in Daytona Beach, St. Augustine and a third is being built in Ocala.
