Woman Charged with Attempted Murder After Family Barbecue Ends in Shooting

Hialeah, FL - A Hialeah woman is charged with attempted murder after a family argument led to her shooting her brother in the leg.

Viviana Paneca, 39, faces attempted murder charges after allegedly shooting her brother in the leg following an argument about him refusing to let her stay at his home.

According to police reports, the fight began with a phone call between Paneca and the victim while he was away from a family barbecue.

The victim's wife overheard Paneca threaten to shoot him if necessary.

The argument continued later that night, with doorbell camera footage capturing the moments leading up to the shooting.

The footage shows Paneca confronting her brother with a gun, then firing a warning shot at the ground before ultimately shooting him in the thigh.

Paneca is being held without bond, while her co-defendant, Jorge Luis Pelegrin, who allegedly encouraged the shooting, faces a $2,500 bond on an accessory charge.
