FLORIDA - Florida is offering a license-free freshwater fishing weekend on June 14th and 15th, allowing residents and visitors to fish without a permit while following all standard regulations.

On Saturday, June 14th and Sunday, June 15th, anyone in Florida, whether a resident or visitor, can fish in freshwater locations across the state without needing to purchase a fishing license.

This upcoming license-free weekend is part of a statewide initiative by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) to promote outdoor recreation and highlight Florida’s world-class fishing opportunities.

FWC Officer Chris Boley told NBC Miami that the license-free events are designed to encourage people to experience the outdoors and connect with nature.

“It’s a great way to get outdoors, get involved, and enjoy everything Florida has to offer,” he said.

“We want to give people a chance to try fishing without any barriers.”

While a license won’t be required during the weekend, all other fishing rules still apply.

This includes size limits, bag limits, and season-specific restrictions.

The FWC emphasized that officers will be on patrol to ensure compliance and help educate new anglers on Florida’s conservation practices.

According to reports, this upcoming weekend is one of only a few each year when the license requirement is waived.

Outside of these events, freshwater licenses cost $17 for Florida residents and $47 for non-residents.
