FLORIDA - Spirit Airlines will begin offering nonstop flights between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and Middle Georgia Regional Airport (MCN) in Macon starting in October.

The airline partnered with Contour Airlines to provide the service, which will operate twice a week.

The new route, set to launch on October 16, 2025, aims to meet demand for direct travel between South Florida and Middle Georgia.

Doug Faour, the Director of Aviation for Macon-Bibb County, emphasized the region's strong interest in flights to South Florida.

Introductory fares for the new route will start at $49.99 one-way.

Tickets are available for booking on Spirit’s website.

This announcement follows a challenging period for Spirit Airlines, including a bomb threat that caused a plane evacuation in Detroit and a viral video showing cockroaches on a flight.

The airline recently appointed Dave Davis as its new CEO and emerged from bankruptcy.

Spirit’s planned merger with JetBlue was blocked by the U.S. Department of Justice in 2024.

Alongside the new Macon route, Spirit Airlines serves several other Florida airports, including Fort Myers, Miami, Orlando, Pensacola, Tampa, and West Palm Beach.

The airline has recently restructured its fare options to simplify its offerings.

This includes introducing “Spirit First” for premium seating and “Value” for more economical choices, while phasing out its previous “Go Savvy” option.

Several other airlines, including Allegiant, Avelo, and Breeze, have also expanded their Florida routes for the upcoming fall and winter seasons.
