Florida has two winners in this year's Pulitzer Prizes for journalism.
The Miami Herald won in the breaking news category for its coverage of the collapse of the Champlain Towers South complex in Surfside last June.
The Tampa Bay Times won for Investigative Reporting. Its "Poisoned" expose of toxic hazards inside a Tampa battery recycling plant led to a federal investigation. Reporters Corey G. Johnson, Rebecca Woolington, and Eli Murray spent more than two years looking into Gopher Resource, which operated a lead smelter in East Tampa.
The Herald now has 23 Pulitzers over its history, the Times 14.
