With just a little over three months to go before the November election, Democrat Charlie Crist is resigning from Congress--effective today.
No specific reason given, but he will be challenging incumbent governor Ron DeSantis this fall. In an appearance on MSNBC after his primary victory last week, Crist called DeSantis "mean," and said enough is enough. "I think Floridians have had his act enough," Crist said. "They're ready to move on. I think they're ready to have somebody experienced--who actually has been governor."
"In the past few weeks, I've had...a Republican every day come up to me and say 'Aren't you Charlie Crist?' I say 'yes," They say 'I'm a Republican, and I'm voting for you. I'm fed up with this guy (DeSantis). I don't like the way he treats kids, the way he treats LGBTQ."
After serving as governor, Crist was elected to Congress in 2016, and re-elected in 2018 and 2020.
Democrat Eric Lynn and Republican Anna Paulina Luna are vying for Crist's seat in the House.
