UPDATE 4:25 PM
(Tampa, FL) -- First responders are continuing to fight a huge fire at a scrap yard near the Manatee County Jail in Palmetto....and are likely to be there well into the night. It's happening at the Kleensoil International yard on Harlee Road.
North River Fire Marshal Andrell Miller says it appears the yard took in a vehicle that had not been crushed or drained. "They were doing everything they were supposed to do, up to the point of accepting a vehicle that had not been drained of its combustible liquids," Miller said. "So what you can see is the result of one single vehicle."
It's the second time this year the scrap yard has caught fire. No injuries, and Miller says there's no danger to nearby residential areas.
As for the jail, Sheriff Rick Wells says there has been no impact on operations.
