Miami Commissioner Arrested

A Miami commissioner is under arrest on charges including money laundering, unlawful compensation or reward for official behavior, bribery, official misconduct and criminal conspiracy.

Alex Diaz de la Portilla was taken into custody after this morning's city commission meeting.

Investigators say the 58-year-old and attorney William Riley Jr. accepted more than $15,000 in payments for the judicial campaign for the commissioner's brother and didn't report them.

Diaz de la Portilla also controlled two political committed which officials say he not only used for his brother's campaign but also personal spending.

The two are expected in bond court tomorrow.

The case will be prosecuted by the Broward State Attorney's Office.
