Teen Work Rules Could Be Tweaked In Florida

A Senate committee taking up a controversial House bill loosening work restrictions for 16-and-17-year-olds. Republican State Senator Tom Wright says the bill eliminates restrictions on teens working more than eight hours when school is in session the next day. The bill would also gets rid of restrictions on 16-and-17-year-olds working more than thirty hours a week during the school year. Opponents say this would exploit disadvantaged kids who may push their studies aside in order to make money. But proponents argue this gives teens a choice to work up to forty hours per week.
