Miami-Dade school board members only having to look as far as South Region Superintendent Rafael Villalobos to fill the shoes of outgoing superintendent Dr. Jose Dotres.
Villalobos feels his past experience in the district will help him deal with shrinking enrollment.
"Sometimes we may need to merge schools, we may need to consolidate schools, we may need to dissolve boundaries, we may need to be innovative," he said.
He also believes if the district doesn't evolve, it will be left behind.
The other finalist interviewed was Broward Schools Chief Human Resources Officer Dr Ernie Lozano.
Miami-Dade is the 3rd largest school district in the country.
